Disney's Yacht Club Resort, and the sister hotel Disney's Beach Club Resort, take you back to the quaint New England seaside cottages of the 1870's. Everything from hardwood floors, millwork and brasswork to host and hostess attire evokes images of New England hotels of the 19th Century.
Because the two resorts are themed for a similar age, and are located next to each other, Disney have provided a number of facilities that are shared by the two resorts. Stormalong Bay, a mini water park, stands out as the largest shared feature, though a number of restaurants and watering holes are also shared between the resorts, providing more facilities than would otherwise be expected.
The Yacht Club is approached along a wooden planked bridge, culminating in the Yacht Club's 5-story Oyster grey building. A lighthouse on the pier serving as a beacon to welcome guests back to the resort after a day at the attractions.
There are a total of 630 spacious rooms available at the Yacht Club, each of which is decorated along a Nautical theme, with blue carpeting, and the curtains and bed linnen being a combination of blue and dusty rose.
Each room generally has either two queen-sized beds, or a single king-sized bed and a day-bed. The headboard of the bed in keeping with the Nautical theme is decorated with small ship's wheels. The large bathrooms have a separate vanity unit, with double sinks, and silver mirrors trimmed with brass. Each room has a ceiling fan, a minibar, and a table with a chequerboard design and two chairs. Chess and Draughts (Checkers) sets are also provided free of charge.
Concierge rooms are also available, though as with any resort these tend to be in fairly high demand, so make reservations early. Non smonking rooms are also available, as are rooms that are specially designed to cater for guests with disabilities. 24h room service is provided to all rooms at the Yacht Club.
Most of the suites have a king-sized bed along with two sleeper-sofas.
The nautical theme also dominates most of the resort's restaurants, and a wide range of menu items are available from room service if required.
The Yacht Club Galley provides an excellent buffet breakfast, and also servers Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner from an a la carte menu, while the Yachtsman Steakhouse serves not only selected cuts of aged beef, but also fresh seafood and poultry. Beverages are provided by the Ale and Compass lobby lounge featuring speciality coffees and drinks, whilst the Crew's Cup is the place to be for a wide range of speciality beers.
The Beaches and Cream Soda Shop is shared by both the Beach Club and the Yacht Club, and provides classic American shakes, malts and oversized sundaes., although they also do a excellent 'Fenway Park Burger' served as either a single, double, triple, or even a 'home run'.
Hurricane Hanna's Grill is also shared with the Yacht Club Resort, providing burgers, hot-dogs, sausages, and other snacks, along with a full bar. A poolside beverage service is available if required.
Guests of the Yacht Club have a wide range of activities to keep them occupied, aside from the attractions and activities in the theme parks. The Ship Shape Health Club provides free loan of volleyball equipment for use on the sand volleyball court (which may be found at the Beach Club side of the resort), and croquet equipment for use on the well maintained croquet court (also on the Beach Club side of the resort). Guided fishing excursions can be arranged by guest relations if required, and the Fantasia Gardens miniature golf complex is very close to the resort.
Various small water craft can be hired from the Bayside Marina, including pedal boats, canopy boats, sail-boats, and water-sprites.
The Sandcastle Club keeps children occupied from 16:30, right through until midnight if required, for a cost of $4 per hour per child. The club tends to be popular though, and reservations are required so book early. A variety of toys, games videos, and even computers are on hand to keep children entertained, and light snacks and milk-drinks are also serverd.
The Ship-Shape Health Club, located between the Beach and Yacht Club Resorts features a variety of Nautilus and Cardivascular machines, sauna, whirlpool, jacuzzi, steam room, and massages by appointment, all overseen by personal trainers. (Guests must be over 13 years of age to use the Ship Shape Club.
Located centrally between the Yacht and Beach Club Resorts, the center-piece of the two sister resorts is the 750,000 gallon mini water park Stormalong Bay. There's a lagoon for relaxed bathing, and another more active lagoon with water jets, mild under currents, and a sandy bottom for those less inclined to relaxing on a sun-bed. Several whirlpools are scattered throughout the two lagoon areas.
Adjacent to the main pool is a shipwreck area, where guests can enjoy a variety of unique water slides.
Additionally, each of the two resorts has it's own smaller pool and whirlpool at the far end of each hotel.
The are two Tennis courts on the Beach Club Resort, both of which are lit for use during the evening. Again Tennis equipment can be rented from the Ship Shape Health Club.
The Periwig salon for both men and women is located in the central area between the two resorts.
The Fittings and Fairings Clothes and Notions shop offers beach fashions, character merchandise, and various other items to Yacht Club residents.
